Our second Athens Airbnb was just around the corner from the First Cemetery of Athens .

There are many famous people buried there, including Richard Church, whose tomb is just above. He was quite the character, a quixotic mix of Lawrence of Arabia, the ‘very model of a modern major general’, and a few more. His life sounds like a film project that should have been really good, Oscar-worthy even, but wasn’t.

I really enjoy visiting good cemeteries. I don’t have any desire to be buried… if we’re not at the “soylent green is people” stage when I go, then give me a quick broil or feed me to the fish. Still, I would be proud to contribute to a nice sculpture garden like this.
