Back in Athens

We had a post-cruise weekend in Athens to decompress and prepare ourselves for the loooong trip home. That’s the little street of our Airbnb in the Metz neighborhood, billed as “the Montmartre of Athens.” The cruise was supposed to be relaxing, but we didn’t find it so. The owner of this apartment was there to help us check in, and she was super nice and helpful. The apartment itself was comfy and had a bunch of little touches that all added up to a big sigh of contentment and 10 solid hours of sleep on the first night.

I started with a walk to the weekly farmers market (thanks to a lucky alert from our Airbnb host) and around the neighborhood. The market was way more impressive than this photo, but I’m self-conscious about being ‘that person’ taking veggie porn pictures.

Athens is covered in graffiti… and two of the most common slogans (I could read) were pro-antifa (apparently antifa is actually a thing there instead of just a MAGA fever dream) and anti-Israel.

I peeked into the Panathenaic Stadium, but didn’t pay to actually go in.

There are quite a few little shrines like this as you walk down the street.

Just like when I try to take a picture of the full moon, this cat looked larger in person. Still: the cat, the graffiti, the flowers: Athens.
