We were encouraged to go up to the observation deck on the way into Santorini, our final island stop, to see the approach.

Some of our shipmates were more interested in the view than others. I don’t think these two were actually together, but whether they were or not, their mutual obliviousness is grand.

We had to moor offshore a bit (there were already several cruise ships there).

We went ashore by boat, thanks to the tender services of the Santorini Boatmen (get it? Tender boats, tender loving care? I crack myself up, I really do.). The tender boat loading and unloading process, which we endured twice, is tedious and vaguely stressful.

You can’t see it in the picture above, but there are two ports there. On the left is the old port, which gets you to the top by foot, cable car or donkey. On the right is the new port, where we ended up, where full-size tour buses haul you up a vertiginous road.

Yikes, but of course everything was fine.
