Den Haag

35 hours door to door is what it took for us to get to the Netherlands. Almost exactly halfway around the world.

We arrived early in the morning… too early to check in, and of course we wanted to do as much as possible to get onto the local time zone.

So, we hopped a train to The Hague for a visit to the MC Escher Museum.

It’s housed in a lovely old building… previously it was occupied for many years by the Queen Mother. The knockers caught my eye (as they always do 😉 ).

In addition to the main attraction, there were all these ginormous bedazzled chandeliers. They’re a recent addition, I’m not sure if permanent. Weird.

And then there’s the prints themselves. As a boy I got a book about Escher, and became utterly fascinated. As a result, the works were sooo familiar to me… and not that different in person. If anything, the museum’s dim light and maybe the ravages of time made them look dingier than I remembered.

It was still cool to see them, and I did buy a t-shirt.

After that, we walked around a bit more and finished the visit with a most Low Countries activity…
