Finding your tribe… priceless

My Canadian boss was in NZ earlier this month on holiday with his family. Purely by coincidence, his daughter’s favorite author, Nalini Singh, was holding a reading / book signing in Auckland on the night we were all scheduled to have dinner. I found a restaurant nearby so she could rush over and be a fangirl.

I’m not into the paranormal romance and romantasy genres (although I suppose if I actually read one I’d be just as breathless as everyone else). But as we walked by the packed-to-overflowing bookshop, we could see just how passionate these (almost exclusively 20-something female) fans are.

It was cool to peek through the window and see their shining eyes! My hobbies and the tribes that go with them are more obscure and at least as geeky, which makes it easy to get past my initial urge to look askance at these books. You go, girls!
