I got off the ship and walked around Rotterdam a few times. Downtown has some famous buildings, such as the Cube Houses…

… and the giant market hall. The city center was mostly destroyed in World War Two, so what’s there is all on the new side.

There were plenty of nice townhouses along leafy canals, although I didn’t get many good pictures.

Being a big city, a seaport and industrial hub, I might have expected it to be more forbidding. We did once or twice find ourselves on the wrong side of a waterway and there were some warehouse districts close by, but overall it felt very livable, easy to get around, vibrant. We’ve always been attracted to un-flat places, and I imagine the lack of any hills would be sad after while, but overall it seemed like a really nice place.
