That’s Lee and a Bold Cura… the smallest car I’ve ever seen. A one-seater, plus a little room in the back for groceries.

It looks ridiculous! But it also seems like the class of vehicle that should play a reasonably big role in the future of urban / suburban transport.

Auckland is much too sprawling and low density to be a truly mass transit city. It’s hilly, and it rains all winter, so there’s lots of reasons why we can’t all ride bikes everywhere.

But a big fraction of our trips to work, school, and shopping could be managed in much smaller and cheaper (electric) cars than we currently have … pop a couple of solar panels on the roof of your house, you’ve got free transport done and dusted. You can park twice as many of them in the same space. You could probably squeeze another lane onto existing roadways.

Seems easy???
