Mark Foy’s

Mark Foy’s was a department store, now the building has been renamed the Downing Centre and houses courts and various legal offices.

It’s just down the street from my hotel this week, and the gold trim is a shocking and/or beautiful shade of mustard gold in the morning sun.

They proudly announced the kinds of things you could buy on panels above the second story windows: flowers costumes corsets mourning gloves laces shoes hosiery silks linens. Oddly specific and seems so tightly tied to middle class life in Sydney 100 years ago.
