Well, shoot.

We came to Taupo this weekend for me to participate in the Huka River Swim, but it’s cancelled.

The idea is that you get to swim with a nice current helping you along. But after the rains yesterday, there’s too much water flowing, so you might get bashed into a rock, or be unable to exit safely in time to avoid the giant waterfall a bit further downstream.

Some of the Auckland gang that went down for the swim stayed on, and did some swimming in the lake. And a nearby triathlon club made a generous offer for swimmers to join in their events over weekend.

But we bailed… the weather forecast was very dicey, and we figured it was better to sleep in our own bed.
