On Saturday, our local Facebook page was alive with pictures like this… many even more dramatic and stunning than this one. A blob of bioluminescent critters had drifted into Stanmore Bay, one of the nearby beaches, on Friday night. How cool is that!?!
So, Saturday night we set out to make the 5-minute drive to check it out for ourselves.
It turns out we weren’t the only ones. Apparently the story had been all over the news, and so a few thousand people descended onto the same few steep, narrow, winding streets we were trying to get to.
We finally found a place to park and joined the throng. It was like Halloween at the mall, that one street that does Christmas lights bigly, and the last day of school, all rolled into one.

But the alien neon creatures weren’t there…

A local resident did a nice job lighting a tree in his yard…

… and somebody’s car overheated…

… but that’s the only dramatic stuff we saw that night.
So what about the pretty picture at the top of the post? Thank you, ChatGPT!
Based on some postings from the last two nights, the bioluminescence appears to be moving up the coast a bit. Maybe we’ll try again tonight… or not.
