
I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again… running a large city must be hard.
The individual decisions made on road maintenance, for example, often seem inscrutable.
Outside our house, they decided to replace the little textured pads on the curb ramps. I hadn’t noticed the old ones being a problem. There are plenty of things that I — and a vocal army of grumpy social media commentators— have noticed are wrong with the roads and sidewalks.
So why this, now? We won’t ever know.
They’ve just passed a law restructuring the Auckland Transport agency. This will supposedly return control of things like this to the smaller local council level. Maybe that will be better… maybe not.
