O Seoul-e Mio

I spent the last full day in Korea wandering around Seoul. I was gonna take the Grey Line tour bus, but after my long subway ride I decided to just wing it and see what appeared in my path.

There were a lot of cool buildings …

Here’s as close as I got to Gangnam Style…

Actually I did wander around the Gangnam area, but in the middle of the day it’s not a happening place.

That’s the N Seoul Tower, which I could have paid to go up… but didn’t.

There was a lot of public art.

There were huge market areas, both indoor (underground in the subway tunnels) and outdoor. I saw a lot of the same cheap stuff you see around the world. This T-shirt said “Conanicut The Ocean State”. Ok, sure, why not? I can’t read Korean, but I think the symbols are cool looking, so it could be the same for them and English.

The SF Film School is selling the dream with a couple of fancy cars parked outside. It seems to be a legit place, but you’d want to make sure you had some god-given talent before plunking down a hefty tuition deposit.

I captured this guy yelling at a building site across the street. He’s so casual in his outrage.

I finished the day with a cool drink. I think Seoul must have the highest concentration of Starbucks I’ve ever seen.

So… how was it to just be a flaneur instead of having an itinerary? Good and bad. I didn’t see most of the important highlights. But I did enjoy just being there, and looking at the stuff I looked at. What’s over there? And there?
