That’s Jim, a member of the Northcote Pétanque Club. He’s wearing the birthday hat bc we’re all helping him celebrate 90.

When I first saw people playing the game on a vacation in France however many years ago, a lot of them looked more or less like Jim. I thought then, “this is the sport for me.”

I don’t know if I’ll make it to 90, of course, but if I do I hope I’ll get to wear the hat.
