See that speck out there in the bay? Actually it’s a pretty good sized rock. Maybe 50-60 feet high? Looks much closer in person.

There’s an annual swim around it, more organized than a regular weekend swim, but not really a race either. It’s run by the local triathlon club with support from the same company that took us to Aitutaki last year. Ocean swimming is a pretty small community, so you end up seeing the same people in various permutations at every event.

That’s me exiting the water. Note to self: try to pay attention to the finishing camera so you don’t look like you just lost your favorite teddy bear.

The swim was only about 2 km, which is not a big distance for me… so this should have been a test of speed rather than endurance. I don’t have all that much of either, but I plugged along okay. I was 12th out of about 30, and also entry #12… must’ve been a good luck charm!
