When we got back from Dunedin, presto, the figs on our tree were ripe. The birds and insects will eat most of them, because they’re too high for me to pick easily.

But in the store, you can buy fresh ones for $3 apiece, so even this platter represents good value (one of those is probably too small to be sold)!

They’re tasty, although not a really concentrated flavour.
